General Information

Airport

More than 40 airlines fly nonstop to more than 100 domestic and international destinations from Boston’s Logan International Airport. There are four passenger terminals, A, B, C and E, each with its own ticketing, baggage claim, and ground transportation facilities. The terminals are connected to the central parking garage by a walkway system. In all, there are 94 gates with contact jet bridges and nine regional jet gates at the airport.

Attire

Bostonians dress smartly and simply. Prepare for hot and humid days and cool nights.

Rental Cars

Cars can be rented in Boston from local or international companies. The average cost per day for a medium-sized car is $85. All cars are left-hand drive. Most hotels in Boston offer parking spaces for $20 a day.

Passport and Visa Requirements

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay in the United States (unless exempt by country-specific agreements). It is the responsibility of the visitor, before entering the United States, to ensure that he or she has the necessary documents, including those for entry into another country or re-entry into his or her own country. Please visit travel.state.gov for more information.

Electricity

Electrical outlets in the United States provide 110 volts (60 cycles) current. If you are traveling from Europe or elsewhere, you will need an adapter to use small appliances designed for a different standard (220/240 V).

Tipping

While tipping is not mandatory in the United States, it is expected in some circumstances for service. Suggested tips:$1-5 for skycaps, bellhops, doormen, and parking valets, $1 per coat for coatroom attendants, $2-5 per night for housekeeper, $5-10 for concierge (only if they arranged tickets or reservations), $1-3 per bag for grocery loaders. For waiters at sit-down restaurants, bartenders, barbers/hairdressers/attendants at beauty salons, taxi drivers, tour guides, and food delivery people, the tip should be calculated as 10-15% of your total pre-tax bill.

Weather

Average temperature for Boston in September is from 57°F (14°C) to 73°F (23°C).
